The Pole2poleandback for Cancer Awareness 2014
The Pole2poleandback Cancer Awareness Drive 2014 is not about fighting cancer through research, but fighting cancer through Early Detection and Early Treatment. As most of the Cancers are treatable when detected early, the patients can lead longer productive lives.
What is Cancer?
Cancer is the general name for a group of more than 100 diseases. Although there are many kinds of cancer, all cancers start because abnormal cells grow out of control. Untreated cancers can cause serious illness and death.
Normal cells in the body
The body is made up of trillions of living cells. Normal body cells grow, divide, and die in an orderly fashion. During the early years of a person’s life, normal cells divide faster to allow the person to grow. After the person becomes an adult, most cells divide only to replace worn-out or dying cells or to repair injuries.
Cancer grows out of normal cells in the body. Normal cells multiply when the body needs them, and die when the body doesn't need them. Cancer appears to occur when the growth of cells in the body is out of control and cells divide too quickly. It can also occur when cells forget how to die.
However, the cause of many cancers remains unknown.
Pole2poleandback is only funded by DONATIONS! So please help us to reach as many people as possible and help save lives.
We are planning a journey to help with Cancer awareness that would cross the Americas, Europe, some of Asia and Africa. We would be spreading the message of Cancer where we go and share our experiences with cancer. We will also be visiting Cancer Awareness events and hospitals along the route. The team will also engage with Cancer Patient families about their experiences. We would encourage families that have experienced cancer to start speaking to each other and forming family support groups.
The increase in Cancer diagnoses throughout the world has increased dramatically since the 70' when 1 in 9 people were to be diagnosed with Cancer during their life time. But these days the chance of being diagnosed with one form or another cancer is 1 in 4.
